Lemon and Lemonade Awards
Started during Steel Magnolias in February 2004, the Lemon and Lemonade Awards were begun to commemorate the fact that everything in life has both good and bad and we ought to celebrate both. During a particularly trying production, a director quoted the old cliche, “When life hands you lemons, make lemonade.” Later in the run, the stage manager was wandering into a card shop when he found two little stuffed bears: one holding a cup of lemonade, and one dressed like a lemon. He bought them immediately. At the cast party, he revealed that he and the production team had discussed who had earned the honor of these awards: one for the greatest goof, and one for the greatest save. Here lies the archives of these awards.
